PM Srettha, who also serves as also the Minister of Finance, initially submitted a request to take leave from Dec 18-22, a Government House source on Friday (Dec 15) reports the Bangkok Post.

He later changed the leave period from 1pm on Dec 19 to 12pm on Dec 22, said the report.

The prime minister is to return to Thailand from Japan today after attending the Asean-Japan Commemorative Summit.

He will chair the regular weekly meeting of the Cabinet tomorrow before taking leave from tomorrow afternoon.

Somkid Chuakong, the prime minister’s deputy secretary-general, said Mr Srettha needs a rest after more than three months of “arduous and restless” work, reported the Bangkok Post.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin wrapped up a day of investor meetings in Japan with a gala dinner preceding the Commemorative Summit that marked the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan relations.

Hosted at the State Guesthouse (Geihinkan), the dinner on Saturday (Dec 16) was attended by ASEAN Secretary-General Dr Kao Kim Hourn, along with various leaders and foreign ministers from ASEAN countries, noted state news agency NNT.

Srettha’s visit to Japan sought to attract investment for large-scale projects in Thailand, including the B1-trillion Land Bridge initiative. His engagements included meetings with members of the private sector, focusing on enhancing economic ties and investment opportunities between Thailand and Japan.

On Saturday, the Premier held discussions with Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Ken Saito, as well as with top executives from the automotive industry and Norihiko Ishiguro, President of JETRO, an organisation that promotes trade and investment.

During his meetings with the Japanese delegates, Srettha stressed Japan’s vital role as an essential partner for Thailand’s economic and trade development. He expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of these discussions, pointing out how they reinforced the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the productive nature of the talks, which covered key areas such as technology, trade, and investment, crucial for Thailand’s future advancement.
