The fatal accident occurred at around 11:45pm along Route 4027, near the PTT petrol station in Moo 8, Pa Khlok.

Officers from Thalang Police Station and emergency responders from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation arrived at the scene to find two motorbikes with heavy damage after a head-on collision.

The rider of one of the motorbikes was identified as Thanvarat Chobtang, a 42-year-old Phuket native registered as living in Ratsada.

She had sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Thalang Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The other motorbike involved in the crash was driven by 32-year-old Piyanut Srichan, from Roi Et Province.

Piyanut has sustained multiple injuries, including facial bruising and bleeding from the ears. He was taken to Thalang Hospital, where a breathalyser test revealed his blood alcohol level was 130 milligrams percent ‒ well over the legal limit.

According to police, Piyanut admitted to drinking alcohol before the crash and confessed to driving on the wrong side of the road in an attempt to return home near Tha Ruea Market.

He said he lost control and collided with Ms Thanvarat, who had been riding her motorbike in the correct lane.

Police delayed filing charges while Piyanut was under medical observation. He was discharged from hospital at 6am and was subsequently arrested.

Legal proceedings are now underway, police confirmed.
