Officials inspected festival vendors at Kathu Shrine yesterday (Oct 21) to protect shoppers and ensure prices are clear.
The Phuket Commerce Office told vendors to show prices in Thai using Arabic numbers, list any extra fees, and make sure the displayed price matches the actual price.
“Fair pricing is important to keep Phuket’s reputation as a top tourist destination,” the Phuket Provincial Commerce office said in their report.
On the same day, the Public Health and Environment Division of the Phuket City Municipality, together with officers from the Phuket Provincial Public Health Office and Vachira Phuket Hospital, conducted inspections of kitchens at Sui Boon Tong Shrine and Bang Niao Shrine and other food vendors on the street.
Phuket City Municipality reported that the site inspections included assessing raw ingredients and cooking, storage and distribution practices, along with random testing for contaminants such as formalin, borax and pesticide residues.
The PPHO also provided guidance on infectious disease prevention, personal hygiene, waste management and safe water usage to ensure food served at the festival is safe and nutritious.
“These proactive measures protect both residents and tourists,” said a Phuket City Municipality official, “ensuring that food sold and served during the Vegetarian Festival meets high standards of hygiene and quality.”
