The truck struck the rear of car before jacknifing into the concrete barriers separating the underpass lanes at about 3:45pm.

With the truck blocking the entrance to the tunnel, traffic backed up for an hour while the truck was removed from the scene.

The car suffered minor damage and no people were injured in the incident, confirmed Lt Waisaksda Tinkaew of the Wichit Traffic Police, who attended the scene.

“The truck driver said he tried to brake immediately because the car in front braked too close,” Lt Waisaksda said.

“Then he lost control of the truck, and the trailer pushed the truck into the concrete barrier,” he told The Phuket News.

The truck was carrying a small load of construction materials at the time, he noted.

Lt Waisaksda this morning said he could not remember the truck driver’s name.

However, he did confirm, “The driver has been charged with reckless driving causing damage to state property.”
