The announcement came at the contract-signing event held at the offices of Phuket City Municipality yesterday (Feb 14).

Phuket Town Mayor Saroj Angkhanapilas explained that PSU Phuket has been hired to develop a system for organising foreign language education in schools under Phuket City Municipality

The aim is to develop foreign language abilities among students in all aspects, including listening, speaking, reading and writing, he said.

PSU Phuket will oversee the teaching of foreign languages, namely English and Chinese, throughout the entire upcoming school year, for the first semester May through to October and the second semester from November 2024 - March 2025.

A total of seven schools will benefit from the new arrangement: Wat Khachonrangsan Municipal School; Baan Bang Neow Municipal School; Plookpanya Municipal School; Baan Samkong Municipal School; Phuket Municipality School; Phuket Municipality Kindergarten; and Phibun Sawasdee Municipal School.

“The aim is to teach students and give them language skills to the same standard as elsewhere and to make students knowledgeable and up to date with world events, which are continually changing,” Mayor Saroj said.

“It will allow students to learn English and Chinese effectively and have the ability to use the language for communication,” he added.
