Deputy Mayor Suphot La-ongphet inspected Yaowarat Rd on Monday (Sept 23) to meet with officials from the municipality’s Engineering Division. The meeting focused on plans to resurface Yaowarat Rd, specifically the section between Soi Phaniang and Yawarat Soi 2, following the completion of a drainage installation by the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning.

The newly constructed drainage system, designed to alleviate flooding, was completed, and the road was reopened to traffic on Sunday (Sept 22), leaving the road now fully open to traffic.

Deputy Mayor Suphot stressed the importance of quickly resurfacing the road to ensure the safety and convenience of both local residents and road users. The resurfacing project will include repainting traffic lines, marking zebra crossings, and cleaning up the sidewalks to restore the area’s appearance and functionality, he said.

Phuket City Municipality will announce the timeline for the roadworks in advance to minimise disruptions to the public, he added.

The efforts come as Phuket gears up for the upcoming Phuket Vegetarian Festival, which will unofficially start from next Wednesday (Oct 2) ‒ the official festival dates are from Oct 3-11.

With the festival approaching, the municipality is focused on restoring key roads to ensure smooth travel for residents and tourists alike, Mr Suphot said.

In addition to the drainage work on Yaowarat Rd, there is an ongoing project to move power lines underground on Thepkrasattri, Deebook and Phuket Roads, in partnership with the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) and communication agencies, he added.

“To ensure safety, operators have been instructed to enhance lighting and clearly mark road closures, allowing road users to navigate more easily during the works,” he said.

KOMARAPHAT AND THUNG KHA RESURFACING

Further road improvement works are also scheduled for Komaraphat Rd, which will undergo asphalt concrete resurfacing from 9pm to 6am each night from Sept 27-29.

The road will reopen each morning. Residents are asked to avoid parking vehicles or placing obstacles on the road during these times to prevent delays. For any concerns, residents can contact Warawut Yanyon, the project supervisor, at 087-6285060.

Similarly, resurfacing work is currently underway on Thung Kha Rd. the work began on Saturday (Sept 21) and is being conducted from 10pm to 5am each night.

The road will also be reopened every morning. Drivers are advised to exercise caution, and residents are requested not to park vehicles or obstruct the road during the resurfacing. For issues, Kritawut Buangam (089-7734700) and Warawut Yanyon (087-6285060) are available as points of contact, Phuket City Municipality announced.
