Phuket Town Mayor Saroj Angkhanapilas announced today (Aug 28) that the recent heavy rains have led to significant water flow into Klong Bang Yai from surrounding areas.
In response, the municipality has ordered officials to pump out excess water and open floodgates to manage the water levels effectively.
Additionally, officials have been placed on standby around the clock to assist residents affected by flooding.
The municipality has urged residents to stay informed about flash flood warnings and updates on water drainage through official channels.
People in need of sandbags, supplies are available at several locations, including the Phuket City Municipality Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) branch in Soi Phaniang, Samkong, at the Phuket City Municipality DDPM branch on Kra Rd and at Wat Kajorn Rangsan Municipality School off Ranong Rd.
The Office of The National Water Resources (ONWR) has issued a warning for potential flash floods, mudslides and landslides in Phuket. The warning is in effect through to Friday (Aug 30), Mayor Saroj said.
“Residents living along Khlong Bang Yai are advised to remain vigilant and monitor the situation closely,” Mayor Saroj urged.
“Those in need of assistance can contact the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office at 076-211111 or 199, or the Phuket City Municipality hotline at 1132, available 24 hours a day.” Mayor Saroj added.
