Phuket Vice Governor Norasak Suksomboon and accompanying officials arrived at Wat Chalong yesterday (June 4).
Vice Governor Norasak reviewed preparations for the ceremony to draw sacred water from the blessed well at the temple. He also spoke with senior monks and temple administrators.
The sacred well at Wat Chalong (officially called Wat Chaiyathararam) has a long history of spiritual significance, said an official report of the announcement. Built by Phra Khru Wisutthiwongsachan Yanmuni (Luang Por Chaem), the second abbot to serve at the revered temple, it features a square rock pond with clear, clean water that naturally bubbles up.
Locals believe the water possesses healing properties and brings good fortune. It has been used in significant ceremonies, such as the holy water ceremony for His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary in 2011 and the Royal Coronation Ceremony of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn in 2019.
The Buddhist ceremony to draw sacred water from the well at Wat Chalong will be held from 2:49pm on July 4.
On July 7, starting at 5:09pm, will be the consecration of holy water at Wat Phra Thong in Thepkrasattri, Thalang.
On July 8, starting at midday, a candle procession ceremony will be held at the Viharn (congregation hall) at Wat Phra Thong
Mr Norasak emphasised the importance of the preparations to ensure that the ceremonies are conducted with due honour and that adequate accommodations are made for the expected participants.
The inspection confirmed that both locations are ready to host the events, which aim to bring good fortune and honour to His Majesty the King on this auspicious occasion, he added.
The public is invited to join the ceremonies.
