The annual provincial event will run from June 2-29 and incorporates a total of 15 sports, officials from the Sport Association of Phuket confirmed at a press conference announcing the event on Monday (May 26).
Competitors no older than age 18 from a range of public and private schools across the island will be competing and the top performers across each discipline will qualify for the finals competition later this year. The winners of that event will then represent Phuket province at national competition level later this year.
Officials stated at the Monday press conference that a budget had been previously received from the Sports Association of Thailand’s National Sports Development Fund to plan and deliver the month-long competition, which strives to encourage and development sports excellence among Thai youngsters throughout the country.
This year’s event will include the following sports on the stipulated dates at the specified venues:
- Swimming; incorporating various competition distances, June 28-29 at the swimming pool facility at Saphan Hin sports stadium
- Petanque, June 12-13 at gym 2 of the Saphan Hin sports stadium
- Karate, June 21-22 at gym 3 of the Saphan Hin sports stadium
- Tennis, June 14-15 at the tennis courts of Sanamchai Sports Stadium, Talat Yai
- Tech-ball, June 10-12 at Satree Phuket School and Pibulsawasdee Municipality School
- Football, June 5-15 at the Saphan Hin sports stadium fields
- Futsal, June 11-14 at the artificial football pitches, Phuket Rajabhat University
- Muay Thai, June 19-20 at Municipal School No.2, Kathu
- Taekwondo, June 7-8 at the Dragon Gym on Soi Ta-Iad, Chalong
- Snooker, June 14-15 at the Nimit Snooker Club 1983 in Phuket Town
- Badminton, June 7-8 at gym 2 of the Saphan Hin sports stadium
- Sepak Takraw, June 7-8 at gym 3 of the Saphan Hin sports stadium
- Jiu-Jitsu, June 28-29 at gym 3 of the Saphan Hin sports stadium
- Athletics, June 14-15 Municipal School No.2, Kathu
- Beach volleyball, June 14-15 at Plai Laem Saphan Hin.
Organisers confirmed all events are free to attend and everyone is welcome to come along to enjoy the action and cheer on the athletes.
