Phuket private sector sends support to troops on Thai-Cambodian border

PHUKET: Private sector organisations in Phuket have joined together to raise funds and send moral support to Thai soldiers and civilians affected by ongoing unrest along the Thai-Cambodian border.

The donation drive, held on Saturday (July 26) at Limelight Avenue in Phuket Town, was led by Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat, who accepted the contributions on behalf of those serving and sheltering in the conflict-affected region.

A wide range of local business groups and associations took part, including the Phuket Tourist Association, Sustainable Tourism Development Foundation, Phuket City Development Co Ltd (PKCD), Southern chapter of the Thai Hotels Association, Phuket Chamber of Commerce, Phuket Tour Operators Association, Patong Beach Hotel Association, Phuket Provincial Industrial Council, Andaman Tour Guide Association, Phuket Bank Club, Phuket Health Spa Association, Phuket Private Education Association, Phuket Real Estate Association, Kata-Karon Beach Hotel Operators Association, Peach Group and the 10th President of the 119th Rotary Club in Phuket Province.

Also contributing were Limelight Phuket, Express Data Co Ltd, the Kamolrungwarakul family, Thanaphon Chunhanon and family, and the Phuket Reporters Association.

As of 3pm on Saturday, the total amount raised stood at B202,000, said an official report of the event.

The funds will go toward supporting the mission of Thai armed forces deployed in the border area, as well as civilians living in temporary shelters due to the unrest.

Organisers expressed their solidarity with those affected and encouraged others to support the cause.
