The initiative, now in its fourth iteration, is designed to involve external agencies in the correction and rehabilitation process, offering inmates a sense of purpose and instilling core values, explained an official report of the relaunch.

With Phuket Governor currently absent from all local public relations reports, Phuket Vice Governor Sattha Thongkham instead presided over the launch ceremony for the program at Phuket Prison yesterday (Sept 19).

Phuket Provincial Prison Director Akom Phusri led the rest of the event, with representatives from the Phuket Provincial Probation Office and the Phuket Promthep Scout Club also in attendance.

Each edition of the program includes 100 participants. The program aligns with the Department of Corrections’ policy to drive change through eight key areas: implementing royal projects, enhancing prison security, improving inmate treatment systems to international standards, and developing educational and vocational training in line with labour market demands, said the official report.

It also focuses on preparing inmates for reintegration into society and ensuring support post-release.

Running from Sept 19-22, the training will be conducted by the Education and Mental Development Division of Phuket Provincial Prison.

The program encourages inmates to follow the Scout Oath, promoting values such as self-discipline, unity and respect for the nation, religion and monarchy, the official report noted.

By opening opportunities for external organisations to contribute, the prison aims to create a comprehensive support system to help reform and reintegrate inmates into society, the report concluded.
