Governor Nirat Phongsittaworn chaired a coordination meeting at Phuket Provincial Hall yesterday (Nov 24) to ensure all agencies are ready to receive Their Majesties and manage the large-scale event.
The meeting also reviewed arrangements for Her Majesty Queen Suthida’s participation in the regatta, where she will race aboard ‘Vayu’ in the IRC Zero class.
Vice Governor Adul Chuthong, Pol Col Phasakon Sonthikul of Phuket Provincial Police, representatives from the Third Naval Area Command, the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), government agencies, local administrative organisations and other relevant offices attended the briefing.
Officials finalised protocols covering safety measures, traffic management, ceremonial procedures and designated areas for the public to greet Their Majesties on arrival and departure.
The Governor instructed all agencies to fully integrate their operations, including event management, emergency medical readiness and public relations to ensure smooth coordination throughout the visit.
Key sections along the route are now being improved to facilitate public access and support crowd movement on the day of the royal ceremony.
The 37th Phuket King’s Cup Regatta, Asia’s largest international sailing event, will run from Nov 29 to Dec 6, bringing together leading sailors from more than 20 countries. Competitors will race across multiple divisions, including keelboats, multihulls, dinghies, Optimists and classes for athletes with disabilities.
Held against the backdrop of the Andaman Sea, the regatta continues to reinforce Phuket’s standing as a world-class destination for marine sports and tourism.
