The project, designed to support government officials in managing road safety and deterring dangerous activities on the road.

The project was launched at an event at the The Pago Design Hotel, Phuket, north of Phuket Town, yesterday (Sept 5).

Presiding over the event was Phuket Provincial Police Commander Pol Maj Gen Sinlert Sukhum. Also present were officials from various government agencies, representatives from the public and private sectors, and road safety partners.

The event featured a workshop titled ‘Building a Network of Female Road Safety Volunteers in Communities in Phuket Province’.

“This project aims to empower female volunteers to become key figures in promoting road safety. The volunteers will work closely with authorities to monitor risky behaviours such as not wearing helmets, illegal driving, and assist in traffic management,” explained Pol Maj Gen Sinlert.

“They will also serve as community advocates, raising awareness, educating locals, and issuing warnings to high-risk groups,” he added.

Pol Maj Gen Sinlert expressed his gratitude to the 94 female volunteers who completed the training workshop.

He emphasised the important role they will play in supporting police efforts to reduce road accidents and potentially curb the spread of drugs through enhanced community vigilance, said an official report of the event.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance road safety across Phuket, with the ultimate goal of reducing fatalities and injuries from traffic incidents, the report added.
