The inspection followed a meeting at Phuket Provincial Hall, led by Ruenwadee Suwanmongkol, Chief Inspector General of the Prime Minister’s Office for Inspection Area 6 and Chair of the Phuket Provincial Governance Committee. Peerapit Ongcharoen, Vice Chairman of the Good Governance Committee, also took part.

The site visits and project reviews were part of the committee’s duty to follow up on the 2025 Annual Action Plan and ensure that each project delivers tangible, sustainable benefits to the public, said an official report of the inspections.

Among the projects visited were two flood-prevention initiatives: construction of retaining walls along both the left and right banks of the Bang Yai Canal, aimed at protecting Phuket Old Town from flooding. Each section has been allocated a budget of B25mn.

The committee also examined four other major developments:

  • A B15mn ‘Water Management Infrastructure Development Project’, overseen by the Phuket Provincial Public Works and Town & Country Planning Office;
  • The high-profile ‘Laem Phromthep Skywalk Project’ in Rawai, valued at over B301mn (previously B250mn), under the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (PPAO);
  • A B230mn ‘Water Quality Improvement Project’, which includes a wastewater interceptor and pumping station management system in Phuket City Municipality; and
  • The B60mn renovation of Surakul Stadium, also under the PPAO.

The committee reviewed progress reports and results from ongoing field visits related to these initiatives, which form part of the provincial strategy for the 2025 fiscal year, the report said.

Ms Ruenwadee stressed the importance of transparent, accountable management and regular oversight to ensure that public funds are used effectively and that all projects meet their intended goals.

“These inspections are essential not only for transparency but to confirm that the public receives real, long-term value from these developments,” she said.

Of note, no details of any progress in any of the projects were included in the report.
