The tests were conducted at Phuket Provincial Hall after a high-level meeting chaired by the governor to drive the Ministry of Interior’s ‘White Interior Project: Safe Zone, No Drugs’ initiative.
Among those present were Vice Governors Adul Chuthong and Samawit Suphanphai, senior officials and heads of government departments under the Ministry of Interior.
The campaign, rolled out under an urgent directive from the Ministry’s Narcotics Control and Suppression Center, seeks to identify and remove drug users and dealers ‒ especially among Interior Ministry personnel ‒ through a targeted screening approach dubbed ‘Re X-ray’.
Governor Sophon emphasised that the screenings were conducted with the voluntary consent of all participants and served as a clear statement of transparency and commitment to public trust.
Urine samples were collected from government workers, employees, labourers and other officials working under the ministry.
No positive results were found, said an official report of the event, adding that the initiative will continue to be a central part of the province’s ongoing efforts to maintain drug-free institutions.
Governor Sophon reaffirmed that Phuket will remain proactive in driving forward the national policy to combat drug use, working across all sectors to develop the province as a model ‘safe zone’ and ensure long-term solutions to drug-related problems.
