The campaign was launched at an event at the Bhukitta Boutique Hotel & Residence Phuket in Phuket Town this morning (Jan 8).

Phuket Vice Governor Adul Chuthong presided over the opening ceremony, accompanied by Orapin Achiwasuk, Director of the Phuket Provincial Office of the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT Phuket).

The event was attended by local government officials, election candidates, supporters and representatives of various agencies.

Ms Orapin highlighted the objectives of the project, emphasising the need for transparency and accurate understanding of election laws and regulations.

“This initiative aims to educate candidates, supporters and the public on conducting elections lawfully and promoting acceptance of the democratic process,” she said.

The project stresses key democratic principles, such as fostering unity, mutual respect and understanding among participants both before and after elections. It also focuses on preventing common election issues, such as vote-buying and defamation, while encouraging honest campaigning, Ms Orapin explained.

The project also provided details about Phuket’s electoral framework. The province has a total population of 413,210 people and is divided into 24 electoral constituencies based on the information collated from the Thai national database.

Mueang Phuket District, with a population of 243,577, is divided into 14 constituencies. Thalang District, which has 113,131 residents, is divided into seven constituencies. Kathu District, with a population of 56,502, is divided into three constituencies.

The Phuket Provincial Election Commission expressed confidence that the initiative will foster a fair, honest and transparent election process.

Organisers believe the project will play a pivotal role in strengthening the democratic framework, reducing election-related misunderstandings, and cultivating a sustainable democratic culture in Phuket, said an official report of the event.
