The centre, established under the campaign ‘Driving Safely, Thailand Without Accidents’, will coordinate efforts across government, private and community sectors from Apr 11-17.

Joining Governor Sophon at Phuket Provincial Hall for the annual opening of the ‘Operations Center’ were Vice Governors Adul Chuthong and Suwit Phansengiam, as well as representatives from government agencies, local administrative organisations, private sector partners, volunteer groups and over 300 local residents.

In his address, Governor Sophon highlighted the importance of integrated cooperation to manage the increased risk of accidents during the Songkran holidays, especially in water festival zones and major tourist areas that draw both domestic and international visitors.

He urged all agencies and members of the public to strictly follow traffic and marine safety laws, and to act as responsible hosts to ensure a positive and secure experience for tourists. He also expressed gratitude to all partners involved in the safety campaign.

Wichit Sutthaso, Chief of the Phuket Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office (DDPM Phuket) ‒ and Secretary of the ‘Phuket Road Safety Operations Center’ ‒ reported that the centre will operate at provincial, district and local levels.

The goal is for the centre to synchronise safety efforts and provide round-the-clock monitoring and response throughout the holidays, Mr Wichit said.

As part of the launch, officials received safety support materials from network partners and dispatched a mobile campaign vehicle to raise public awareness about accident prevention.
