The training, held at Dowroong Wittaya School on Wednesday (Nov 13), was presided over by Phuket Governor Sophon Suwanarat.

The training was organised in the wake of the bus fire tragedy in Bangkok on Oct 1 that claimed 23 lives and left many others injured. The tragedy sparked public concern over transportation safety.

Recognising the growing number of road accident fatalities in Phuket, the governor emphasised the need for proactive measures to enhance safety and emergency preparedness, said an official report of the event.

The training event brought together officials and 123 participants, including teachers and students from Dowroong Wittaya School’s upper primary and secondary levels.

Joining the event were DDPM Phuket Chief Sopon Thongsai and PLTO Chief Atcha Buachan, among other officials.

“Phuket’s status as a global tourist hub, hosting over 40,000 daily visitors, heightens the importance of safety measures, particularly for tour buses used by tourists, students, government staff, and the general public,’ said the official report.

“The emergency training initiative seeks to ensure that, in the event of an accident, students and other passengers have the skills needed to respond effectively,” it added.

DDPM Phuket, in collaboration with the PLTO, the Phuket Education Area Office, Andaman Tourism Business Association and other related agencies and organisations, plans to implement ongoing emergency preparedness programs in all Phuket educational institutions throughout 2025, the report noted.

“These programmes are part of a comprehensive action plan aimed at preventing and mitigating the impact of future incidents,” the report concluded.
