Athe meeting, held at the Phuket Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office main off in Phuket Town were officials from Mueang Phuket, Kathu and Thalang Districts Offices, along with representatives from local administrative organisations (municipalities and OrBorTor).

During the meeting, important updates were provided on the recent Cabinet resolution from Sept 17, 2024. The resolution approved the Ministry of Interior’s budget proposal for the 2024 fiscal year, designating emergency funds to assist flood victims during the ongoing rainy season.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation was tasked with distributing the funds through the Government Savings Bank.

The relief payments will be made via the PromptPay system, with clear criteria set for fund disbursement. The amount of aid depends on the severity of the flooding experienced by households:

  • B5,000 for floods lasting between 1 and 7 days,
  • B7,000 for floods between 7 and 30 days,
  • B9,000 for floods lasting more than 30 days.

Eligible recipients must be permanent residents of affected areas that have been declared disaster zones. They must also obtain a disaster relief certificate and undergo verification by the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office.

The aid will only be given once, even in cases of multiple disasters.

Phuket Province has been declared a disaster area since May 20, with 70 communities in 11 subdistricts (tambon) across all three districts affected, said an official report of the meeting.

Residents seeking further assistance can contact their local government organisations for more details. Notably, the relief is only available to Thai citizens, as per the Cabinet’s decision.
