The Phuket Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office (DDPM Phuket) late yesterday (Sept 15) issued a notice marked as issued by Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat.
The notice informed the public that DDPM Phuket was urging people to beware flash floods, flood waters, mudslides and strong winds.
DDPM Phuket was monitoring and following the situation, which the notice also urged the public to do.
The notice issued by DDPM Phuket warned of heavy weather from Sept 14-18. However, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has warned that the heavy weather will intensify through to Friday and Saturday.
Southern parts of the island suffered heavy deluges throughout today, with Chao Fa West Rd becoming impassable for most vehicles at the section in front of Wat Chalong.
Chalong Police also warned of floodwater across the road at the Thepanusorn Intersection. Chao Fa East Rd also suffered floodwater across the road in front of Wat Ladthi Wanaram (Wat Tai) and further north near Baan Nabon.
Other areas further north, including Ratsada and Koh Kaew, also suffered heavy downpours, resulting in the inevitable traffic delays.
Srisoonthorn officials likewise were already on alert since this morning, and called to remove fallen trees.
At the base of the hill in Kata beneath the Big Buddha viewpoint, some tourists have been prevented from returning to their accommodations as a precaution.
In central Kata, Karon Mayor Jadet Wicharasorn led officials to inspect and provide assistance to those affected by floodwater inundating Soi Ketkwan.
Meanwhile, Phuket City Municipality officials are again monitoring the water level in Bang Yai Canal, which meanders throughout the heart of Phuket Town.
