Taking place at the beach volleyball facility at Bodhavattanaseni school, the young Thai girls emerged victorious against their counterparts from Bangkok by 2 sets to 0.
After their win the team were warmly congratulated by Thammawanth Wongcharuneyot, the president of the Sports Association of Phuket, who was joined by Damrong Chaisena, director of the Phuket office of the Sports Authority of Thailand, as well as other relevant officials.
The tournament, referred to as the “Ratchaburi Games”, sees 77 provinces competing between Mar 20-31 across a variety of sports, including beach volleyball, tennis, golf, taekwondo, basketball, cycling, motocross, fencing, karate, jiu jitsu, badminton, gymnastics, indoor handball, figure skating and bodybuilding.
The Phuket delegation of athletes and officials were given an official send-off from Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat at Provincial Hall on Tuesday.
Governor Sophon wished all athletes the best of luck in their respective fields while stressing the importance of good sportmanship and respect at all times to ensure they create a ositive image of Phuket.
He also confirmed that a support grant of just over B1.5 million had been distributed to the Sports Association of Phuket to cover all expenses relating to the 11-day tournament.
Earlier on Tuesday, Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (PPAO) President Rewat Areerob presented all the Phuket athletes commemorative polo shirts to be worn at the Games.
