The ceremonies began at 8am, with Phra Khru Prakhunsutkit. Assistant to the Abbot of Wat Wichit Sangkaram, leading the ceremonies, which included mass prayers and a procession around the temple.

Celebrating Asanha Bucha Day helps to raise awareness among children, youth and the public about the importance of Buddhism as well as to cultivate virtue, explained Phra Khru Prakhunsutkit.

“It is a good for society to have morals by adopting the doctrines of Buddhism in everyday life,” he said.

The Buddhist precepts of countering the misery of suffering and lack of wisdom, which make it difficult to be more rational, emphasize the principles that the Lord Buddha put forward, he said.

“This is completely different from the concept of free will, and proclaimed a new way out of suffering for the world. The cause of a problem is solved within our own mind, through practicing the Middle Way of the Lord Buddha,” he explained.

Governor Norraphat noted that the doctrine of Buddhism teaches principles in a methodical way that Buddhists can practice,

“So I would like to ask our brothren and the youth to follow the principles of Buddhism, and practice discipline to help develop Phuket for prosperity,” he said.
