The meeting, chaired by Phuket Vice Governor Samawit Suphanphai, was held at the Miracles Asia Drug Rehabilitation Center in Pa Khlok, Thalang District.

Joining the Vice Governor were Dr Banphot Pankluem, a Deputy Director of the Phuket Provincial Public Health Office (PPHO); Mark Juan Heather, Director of Miracles Asia; and representatives from relevant agencies.

The session reviewed the mandate of the provincial-level working group, created under Order No. 1/2025 of the Subcommittee on the Establishment and Quality Control of Standards for Screening Centres, Drug Addiction Treatment Centres, Drug Rehabilitation Centres, and Social Rehabilitation Centres, issued on May 28 this year, explained an official report of the meeting.

The working group acknowledged the decision of Subcommittee Meeting 4/2024, which approved Miracles Asia as a private rehabilitation centre under the Narcotics Act. The centre, directed by Mr Heather, currently provides 20 rehabilitation rooms for drug addicts.

A proposal by the centre to expand capacity to 32 rooms, in response to growing demand for services, was submitted for the group’s consideration.

Also presented were the quality assessment criteria for screening and rehabilitation centres, which will form the basis of accreditation moving forward. The details were outlined to the group by Mr Charat Wuttichai.

Officials noted that the meeting represents an important step for Phuket in developing a comprehensive care and rehabilitation system in line with national policy, aimed at prevention and sustainable solutions to the drug problem.
