Phuket meth bust lands 42.000 pills

PHUKET: Phuket Provincial Police have arrested a man in Krabi after a raid in Ratasda, Phuket, landed more than 42,000 methamphetamine pills (ya bah).

The announcement came at a press conference at the Phuket Provincial Police Investigation Division headquarters this morning (Apr 3).

Police named the man as Saroj Samart, 35, registered as living in Ao Luek Noi, Krabi. Police also referred to the suspect as ’Dr Samart’.

Police said that it took officers one month to track the suspect down after a raid on a house in in Moo 6, Ratsada, where 42,565 ya bah pills and 1.04 grams of crystal meth (ya ice) were seized, along with a BB gun modified to fire .38-calibre bullets and five .38-calibre live rounds.

In making the arrest, police reported seizing assets to the value of B1,216,987, including a Toyota Vios car registered in Phuket.

Also listed as seized were Toyota Vios registered in Krabi, worth about B400,000; a Kawasaki Ninja motorbike registered in Phuket, worth about B200,000; a Toyota Vigo pickup truck, worth about B600,000; and a Siam Commercial Bank account in the name of Saroj Samart with a balance B16,987.

Saroj had been brought back to Phuket City Police Station to face charges, police confirmed.

He faces charges of Illegal possession of a Category 1 narcotic with intent to sell, possession of an illegal firearm and illegal possession of ammunition, and with illegally using a Category 1 narcotic.
