The event, held at the Royal Phuket City Hotel, was attended by hundreds, including key officials, private sector representatives, associations, clubs, donors and members of the public.

The ceremony was organised by the Phuket branch of the Red Cross Society of Thailand in cooperation with the Phuket Regional Blood Centre (PRBC) of the Thai Red Cross.

In her opening report, Busadee Suwannarat, who as the governor’s wife serves as President of the Phuket branch of the Red Cross, underscored the event’s significance in raising public awareness about the importance of voluntary, regular blood donations.

Pornthip Ratchak, Head of the Phuket National Blood Service, explained that World Blood Donor Day commemorates Dr Karl Landsteiner, who discovered the ABO blood group system ‒ a discovery that revolutionised modern medicine.

The event, held under the global theme ‘Give Blood, Give Hope,Together We Save Lives’, aimed to encourage new and repeat donors, promote community cooperation and address ongoing blood shortages in hospitals.

Governor Sophon praised donors for their generosity, calling their contributions “the gift of life”. He emphasised that their acts of kindness embody the spirit of sacrifice and unity that strengthens Thai society.

During the ceremony, honorary plaques were presented to individuals and organisations that have actively supported blood donation activities.

Jason Beavan, General Manager of Class Act Media & IMAGE asia, accepted the plaque on behalf of Class Act Media.

Plaques and commemorative souvenirs were also awarded to long-time donors who have given blood more than 100 and 200 times, recognising their outstanding commitment to public service.

In addition to the formal proceedings, attendees could participate in various activities, including onsite blood, eye and organ donation services, as well as enjoy photo booths, food and beverage stalls, lucky draws and commemorative T-shirts for donors.

The event concluded a week-long donation campaign, held from June 9-14 at the PRBC, located near Saphan Hin, aimed at ensuring a stable blood supply for the region.

Phuket officials expressed hope that World Blood Donor Day 2025 would inspire even greater participation in future donation drives, further strengthening the culture of generosity and public spirit essential to Thailand’s healthcare system.
