The event, titled ‘Lawyers’ Income Management Techniques: A Guideline for Life’, addressed issues surrounding financial planning, proper tax payment and the ethical standards of legal professionals.
In his opening remarks, Dr Wichian Chubthaisong, President of the Lawyers Council, emphasised the significance of financial planning for lawyers, a profession that lacks welfare benefits, and the importance of adhering to ethical practices.
He praised the Phuket Provincial Bar Association for being the first to organise such a seminar, highlighting its relevance for the sustainability of lawyers’ careers.
Rungnapa Phutkaew, President of the Phuket Provincial Bar Association, along with the association’s executive board and numerous lawyers from across Phuket, joined the event.
The seminar featured respected speakers, including. Kanit Walayaphet, Chairman of the Lawyers’ Ethics Committee, and Dueanpilai Chaemchit, a tax specialist and practicing lawyer. Together, they shared insights and strategies to help participants better manage their income, comply with tax obligations and uphold professional ethics.
Dr Wichian underscored the importance of equipping lawyers with knowledge about income management and taxation.
“The legal profession does not provide welfare benefits, making it essential for lawyers to adopt sound financial principles. Poor financial planning can lead to difficulties later in life, especially during periods without work,” he said.
He also stressed that lawyers, like all professionals, must fulfill their tax obligations to be responsible members of society.
Ethics formed a core component of the seminar, with Lawyers’ Ethics Committee Chairman Mr Kanit highlighting the growing risks of ethical violations in modern legal practice.
“Lawyer ethics must remain at the forefront of every practitioner’s work. Adherence to legal frameworks and regulations ensures that lawyers truly serve the public interest,” he remarked.
He also urged participants to use the seminar as a reminder to align their practices with ethical standards and to analyze cases for the genuine benefit of their clients.
Tax specialist Ms Dueanpilai shared practical advice on tax management, offering participants actionable steps to ensure compliance with tax laws while maintaining professional integrity.
Her presentation aimed to bridge the gap between legal practices and financial accountability, encouraging lawyers to adopt a holistic approach to their careers.
The seminar concluded with a call for continued education and ethical vigilance in the legal profession. By addressing such critical issues, the Phuket Provincial Bar Association hopes to enhance the sustainability and professionalism of lawyers in Phuket and beyond.
