The training program officially opened earlier this week at the Merlin Hotel in Phuket Town. Phuket Vice Governor Samawit Suphanphai attended the opening to offer encouragement to participants, while Wuttichai Bamrungrat, chief of the Phuket Provincial Local Administration Promotion Office, presided over the ceremony.
The training spans nine days over two sessions, the first June 9-13 and the second from June 23-26.
A total of 88 local residents enrolled, many aspiring to become volunteer or independent caregivers in the community.
The programme aims to:
- Equip participants with essential knowledge and skills to care for dependent elderly individuals.
- Develop caregivers’ abilities to provide effective health services.
- Promote employment and income opportunities for residents.
- Ensure seniors receive care that meets the Ministry of Public Health’s standards across four key areas: physical, mental, emotional and social well-being.
Led by Kampanat Saenjaibaaan, Director of the Department of Local Administration’s Performance Management and Welfare Subdivision, the project is supported by a team of lecturers, officials and health experts. The curriculum blends theory and hands-on practice, including lectures, group discussions, experience-sharing and practical training.
The initiative has received strong collaboration from several local agencies, including the Phuket Provincial Public Health Office, Phuket City Municipality Medical Center, Phuket Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office, Subdistrict Health Promotion Hospitals and public health networks across Phuket.
Officials say the program represents a significant step toward improving the quality of life for Phuket’s ageing population, while also preparing the local workforce to meet the demands of an increasingly elderly society both regionally and nationally.
