At a meeting held at Phuket Provincial Hall on Monday (Feb 24), Poolsuk Phengsang, Provincial Attorney for the Protection of Rights, Legal Assistance and Enforcement, was elected as the chairperson of the Subcommittee on Consideration of Compensation for Victims in 2025.

The meeting was the second session of the Subcommittee on Consideration of Compensation for Victims this year. Representatives from relevant agencies also participated in the discussion.

During the session, the subcommittee reviewed 19 cases, approving compensation for 15 victims, totaling B911,913.25. One case was withheld for further consideration, while three requests were dismissed.

Among the applicants reviewed was Saowani Sadiyamu, 40, a widowed mother of two from Yala province currently living with her father and two daughters.

Ms Saowani is seeking B20,000 in assistance and may be eligible for support from various funds or legal aid programs.

Her household expenses amount to approximately B15,400 baht per month, including: Water and electricity bills: (B400); Daily living expenses: (B9,000); Motorcycle loan payments (B2,000); Travel expenses for medical appointments (B1,000); and Teachers’ Savings Cooperative loan payments: (B3,000 - she was previously a teacher but resigned).

The meetings are part of ongoing efforts to ensure justice and support for those impacted by criminal cases in Phuket Province, explained an official report of the meeting.
