The event, held at the Royal Phuket City Hotel, was presided over by Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat, who was joined by Vice Governor Adul Chuthong, Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (PPAO) President Rewat Areerob, government officials, private sector representatives and a large turnout of Isan residents now living and working in Phuket.
Founded by Phuket’s Isan community more than 20 years ago, the Phuket Andaman Isan Association aims to foster unity, preserve northeastern Thai traditions and support social activities across the province, said an official report of the event.
The annual gathering serves not only as a celebration of culture but also as a fundraiser to provide scholarships for children of Isan families in Phuket.
Saturday’s programme featured displays of Isan heritage, including traditional clothing, a lively ‘Somtam’ (papaya salad) preparation performance and a rousing ‘Mor Lam Ching’ folk music show.
Governor Sophon praised the community’s contribution to Phuket society, commending the association’s efforts to maintain cultural identity while promoting solidarity and social welfare.
“This event reflects the strength of the Isan community in Phuket, which has become an integral part of the province,” he said. “Their unity and commitment to culture are a source of pride and an example of how diversity strengthens our society.”
Organisers described the evening as a platform to build friendships, preserve traditions and share happiness among residents, reinforcing a sustainable and inclusive Phuket community.
