Phuket Town Deputy Mayor Supachoke La-ongphet oversaw the opening ceremony at the 4,000-seater indoor gymnasium in Phuket Town at 10:30am this morning, and was joined by Sumsuchee Suksom, representative of Thai PBS, in addition to relevant officials and athletes.
There are a total of seven teams participating in the southern region two-day competition that started today and concludes tomorrow. The teams, from Phuket and surrounding provinces, are as follows:
- Porsche Phone team from Chumphon
- Khum Ban Junior VC team from Phuket
- Dynasty Bangkok team from Phuket
- Nangphaya VC team from Krabi
- Baan Bae VC team from Trang
- Lan Kong team from Phuket
- TNSU from Krabi
One of the major directives of the event is to promote a healthy lifestyle among local residents, specifically in relation to highlighting the dangers of smoking, drinking, drug taking and gambling.
There is a specific focus on alcohol via the Social Power Foundation which is creating awareness of the harmful effects of alcoholic beverages and striving to reduce the risk factors it can have in today’s society.
Additionally, the competition encourages a healthy and open space for inclusion of LGBTQ communities, while promoting tourism in Phuket province in collaboration with the Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), ThaiPBS TV station, and the Alcohol-Free Network.
