All government offices will be closed for the auspicious occasion This Thursday, as they will be Tuesday next week (Dec 10), when the country observes Constitution Day.
Phuket Immigration, along with all government offices, will also be closed from Dec 30 through Jan 1, as government officials enjoy the New Year holidays.
There are no bans on the sale of alcohol over the coming national holidays, yet this Thursday people are expected to observe respectful behaviour in honour of King Bhumibol.
Phuket’s leading officials will join ceremonies to honour King Bhumibol, while local administrations will hold ceremonies of their own, including a host of activities to mark Father’s Day.
The Constitution Day national public holiday is regarded as a less auspicious affair. Since becoming a ‘Constitutional Monarchy’ in 1932, Thailand has had 20 versions of its Constitution brought into effect, mostly after coups.
