According to a report, the crackdown spanned from Tuesday last week (July 23) to yesterday (Aug 1).
According tot the report, the seven people arrested during the nine days were:
- Mr Muhammad, Pakistani nationality (1,377 days)
- Mr Hesham, Egyptian nationality (213 days)
- Mr Moustafa, Egyptian nationality (204 days)
- Mr Bright, Nigerian nationality (599 days)
- Mr Onyeanya, Nigerian nationality (118 days)
- Mr Chinedu, Nigerian nationality (53 days)
- Mr Min Paing, Myanmar nationality (46 days)
All seven were charged with "being an alien who has entered and remains in the Kingdom with permission expired." They have been processed and informed of their rights, with further legal action pending, said the report.
In the report Phuket Immigration emphasised the importance of complying with Sections 37 and 38 of the Immigration Act B.E. 2522, which require accommodations to report the presence of foreign nationals.
Compliance with the law wais crucial for maintaining public safety and ensuring the welfare of both tourists and residents, the report added.
