Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat chaired the occasion which was held at the Michelin-starred Tu Kab Khao restaurant in Phuket Town.
Governor Sophon was joined by his wife Busadee Suwannarat, who serves as the President of the Red Cross Society in Phuket, in addition to a number of representatives from countries across Asia.
The overseas delegation is in Phuket from May 31 until June 10 and have and will take in a number of initiatives that are taking place on the island during Pride month throughout June.
No specific details were given as to the exact countries the delegates hailed from, likewise whether they were from public or private sector organisations, with the Phuket PR page on Facebook merely stating that the visitors were erely “leading partners in the promotion of gender diversity.”
However, it was disclosed that the Asia Pride Alliance is part of the Cabinet’s directive to promote gender diversity and equality as it strives to host the InterPride World Conference and additional Pride-themed events in future.
Officials from the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) worked with the Bangkok Pride group and local authorities in Phuket to plan and execute Wednesday’s event, which they say is regarded as a key initiative in helping promote and build gender equality and diversity moving forward.
Local organisations supporting the event included the Phuket Hotels Association, The Phuket Chamber of Commerce, the Hotels Association Southern Chapter, the Tourism Council of Phuket and the Phuket Tourism Association.
