The services were attended by hundreds of officials in full uniform as well as leading local community figures and many members of the public.
The main ceremony included mass prayers for King Bhumibol and a candle-lighting ceremony.
At the auspicious time of 7:09pm, all present observed 89 seconds of silence to honour the late King.
At a mass event this morning (Oct 14) at Sanam Chai, across from Provincial Hall in Phuket Town, more than 5,000 people took a pledge to honour the late King and to uphold the ‘We do good things by our hearts’ campaign.
After the participants took the pledge, the participants joined a mass-clean-up of areas throughout Phuket Town to clear up litter and to eliminate potential mosquito-breeding sites.
The specific targetting of potential mosquito-breeding sites is hoped to reduce the incidence of mosquito-borne diseases, especially dengue fever – of which Phuket this year has been leading province in the country for per capita infection rates.
