Presided over by Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat, the event was attended by senior government officials, military personnel, members of the Phuket Red Cross Society, private sector representatives and members of the public.
The tribute began at 5:30pm with the laying of gold and silver ’Phan Phum’ (พานพุ่ม) by representatives from government agencies, state enterprises, local administrative organisations and community groups. More than 100 individuals took part in the floral homage.
At 7:10pm, Governor Sophon led participants in a formal candle-lighting ceremony in front of a large portrait of His Majesty. Alongside his wife, Ms Busadee Suwannarat – who also serves as President of the Phuket Red Cross Society and the Phuket Interior Ministry Housewives Club – the governor offered incense, lit candles, and opened flower trays in honour of His Majesty’s enduring contributions to the country.
The Royal Anthem was performed by a live orchestra as attendees held aloft candle lanterns in a show of unity and respect. The ceremony concluded with the crowd singing ‘Sansoen Phra Barami’ and ‘Phra Maha Raja’ (Praise the King)*, followed by a collective chant of ‘Long Live the King’ three times.
The 6th cycle birthday, marking 72 years, holds particular cultural and spiritual significance in Thai society. Similar tribute ceremonies were held across the country in celebration of His Majesty’s birthday, said an official report of the event.
