The event, presided over by Phuket Vice Governor Samawit Suphanphai, was joined by representatives from the Ministry of Education Region 6 Office, the Culture Office of Phuket and school administrators.
The event featured a series of activities aimed at highlighting the contributions of teachers who inspire and develop Thai education. Proceedings began early in the morning with an alms-giving ceremony at 7:30am, followed by a Buddhist merit-making ceremony.
Mr Samawit led the lighting of incense sticks and candles to worship the ‘Triple Gem’ ‒ the Buddha, his disciples (Sangha) and his teachings (Dharma) ‒ and offered requisites to the monks.
The event also served as a platform to reflect on the legacy of educators. Participants stood in silence for one minute to honour teachers who have passed away, followed by an oath-taking ceremony led by senior educators.
Outstanding teachers and educational personnel were recognised with awards for their significant achievements.
In his address, Vice Governor Samawit emphasised the critical role of teachers in shaping Thailand’s future, referencing the 2025 Teachers’ Day slogan promoted by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra: “Teachers spark dreams, encourage them to think and create opportunities in life for Thai children.”
“Teachers are the cornerstone of human resource development,” said Mr Samawit, noted an official report of the event.
“They serve as role models and guide students to achieve their potential, nurturing their physical, mental, and intellectual growth. Teaching is more than imparting knowledge ‒ it’s a lifelong spiritual responsibility requiring relentless dedication and perseverance.”
He also congratulated the award recipients, encouraging them to continue being exemplary figures for both students and fellow educators.
