During his visit to the shelter visited yesterday (Mar 1), Governor Norraphat also invited people to donate money for dog food and to build cages for the dogs, which currently number about 400 at the shelter.

“After this inspection I have ordered the Phuket Provincial Livestock Office and relevant agencies to improve the landscape in front of the entrance, to install a sign for the shelter and have pictures identifying the dogs for people to see clearly,” he said.

“I have also checked the installation of an electrical system and Wi-Fi, and now I have requested more space from the Department of Forestry to extend the area,” he added.

The shelter is located on land within the Bang Kanun Protected Forest Area.

“In addition, I employed three more staff, so now they have a total of five employees to manage the dog shelter,” said Gov Norraphat.

“Now there must be a waste-management system and the waste of dogs must be treated before being discharged into the public waterway (that flows nearby),” he said.

“Also the internal utilities must be organised to be clean and not smelly. We are working with the Soi Dog Foundation to provide workers and sterilisation equipment,” he added.

“There are now 400 dogs in the shelter but there is still a lack of many things, such as dog cages and food, so people are invited to donate their money to help.”
