Mr Nirat formally assumed the governorship on Monday, but spent his first day in Bangkok meeting Ministry of Culture Permanent Secretary Prasop Riangngen to discuss preparations for the Thailand Biennale 2025, which opens in Phuket on Nov 29.

In response to the public impression made on his first day, PR Phuket yesterday launched a blitz of reports across its official channels, many repeating the same messages, emphasising his nickname “Sembe”, and underscoring that the new governor had “begun his duties in Phuket”.

The posts stated that Phuket “welcomes Governor Sembe”, who is “ready to drive forward his work for the people” with a commitment to “straightforwardness and 100% dedication”. Several posts featured the same quote: “My qualifications don’t wait for others to come to me. I’ll go to them if my approach benefits our city.”

Arriving at Phuket Provincial Hall yesterday morning, Mr Nirat took part in a customary ceremony paying respects at the “Phra Phuttha Thamrong Ming Muang” shrine and the provincial spirit house, before meeting with officials in the Chao Fah Meeting Room.

In his remarks, Governor Nirat thanked the people of Phuket for their welcome and outlined his approach to the role, stressing proactive, on-the-ground engagement.

“If there’s a problem, tell me… I’ll go to the area immediately to discuss it and fix it, not wait for the issue to escalate,” he said, adding that his administration would be guided by “straightforwardness, uncomplicatedness and full commitment”.

He pledged “more than 100%” effort, noting his nine years of experience governing other provinces, and said Phuket’s progress would rely on close coordination between districts, local administrative bodies, municipalities, the private sector and residents themselves.

“Every problem has a solution. Every potential of Phuket has a way to expand. The people of Phuket know best,” he said.

Mr Nirat emphasised that his priorities remain public safety, quality of life and income security, adding that the governorship was “an honour” and that he was determined to make Phuket “a province where residents are happy, civil servants can work with peace of mind, and all sectors move forward together”.

His arrival was marked by flower-presentations from government and private-sector representatives at Provincial Hall.

Governor Nirat’s appointment marks a shift toward a more hands-on, outreach-driven leadership style, with his administration promising integrated cooperation and swift responses to local concerns as Phuket pushes for stable and sustainable development.
