Preparations include mobilising manpower, deploying machinery and distributing sandbags to ensure the safety and convenience of residents, said Phuket Town Mayor Saroj Angkhanapilas.
Mayor Saroj assured that a comprehensive plan is in place to monitor and manage the water situation during the rainy season. Given Phuket Town’s location ‒ receiving water from surrounding areas and being adjacent to the sea ‒ the municipality must be vigilant about rising sea levels during heavy rainfall, he said.
“The plan covers various aspects, including readying personnel, machinery and sandbags, which will be distributed to high-risk zones to mitigate flooding and ensure efficient water drainage,” Mayor Saroj said.
Mayor Saroj emphasised that effective water management is crucial to minimising any adverse impact on the local economy and residents in Phuket Town.
In addition to these preparations, the municipality is accelerating dredging operations and waste removal from canals to enhance water flow efficiency during the rainy season, Mayor saroj explained.
Despite these extensive preparations, residents were advised to continuously and closely monitor weather updates from government sources.
