A special ceremony was held at the multipurpose field at Sriphuwanat Park in Wichit where General Decha Nithit Leungngamkham, Director of the War Veterans Organisation under Royal Patronage, met with the group of veterans.

General Decha was joined by: Thiraphong Chuaychu (previously the Kathu District Chief, promoted to Chief Administrative Officer (Palad) for Phuket Province on Nov 18); Sompit Sri Khamhaeng, representative from the Phuket office of the Department of Social Development and Human Security Phuket Province; the Deputy Commander of the Phuket Provincial Police; Colonel Nakrob Kaewphuangngam, Deputy Chief of the Krabi War Veterans Office; in addition to relevant officials.

In his speech, General Decha thanked the veterans for their service and for helping maintain peace throughout the country by protecting the sovereignty of the nation.

He further thanked the work done by the Veterans Welfare Office based in Krabi, which is responsible for taking care of war veterans and their families across the four provinces, namely Karbi, Phuket, Trang and Phang Nga.

In order to provide comprehensive care for war veterans and their families, the office has set up a network of war veterans in each district to distribute accurate information from the organisation, to help each other and coordinate information of war veterans who are in trouble, so that all war veterans and their families receive care and assistance.

Currently, there are 19,602 war veterans and their families, most of whom work in agriculture, rubber plantations, palm oil plantations, coastal fisheries and in general labour-based roles, General Decha explained.
