The training, conducted under the leadership of Pol Col Phisit Sawatthawon and Pol Lt Col Ekkachai Siri, follows an order by national Tourist Police Commander Pol Lt Gen Saksira Pueak-am to strengthen security for visitors.
Pol Lt Gen Saksira has emphasised the importance of bolstering the capabilities of the Tourist Police nationwide. In response, the Tourist Police Bureau has initiated training programs for both Thai and foreign volunteers to ensure they are well-prepared to assist in safeguarding tourists, said a report by Phuket Tourist Police.
Presiding over the event on Friday (Feb 28), Pol Col Thirawat Liamsuwan, Deputy Commander of Phuket Provincial Police and Chief of the Tourist Safety Operation Center, underscored the initiative’s importance.
The training attracted 122 volunteers, including 79 Thai and 43 foreign participants, all committed to enhancing security at key tourist destinations across Phuket and Phang Nga provinces.
As part of the initiative, a dedicated LINE group has been established to streamline communication and coordination among volunteers, ensuring swift responses to incidents, said the report.
The program aligns with the government’s broader ‘Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025’ campaign, which aims to make this year a landmark for tourism, the report added.
The training was designed to equip volunteers with essential skills, including:
- Understanding the mission and duties of the Tourist Police Bureau and volunteer responsibilities.
- Identifying suspects, reporting incidents, and coordinating with relevant authorities.
- Providing service and assistance to tourists.
- Gaining knowledge about local attractions and offering support during emergencies.
- Enhancing operational efficiency through collaboration with police and local stakeholders.
By integrating volunteers into the tourist safety framework, authorities hope to foster a secure and welcoming environment for visitors. The initiative underscores Phuket’s commitment to maintaining its reputation as a top global travel destination, the report concluded.
