Phuket blood donors start new year of life-saving effort

PHUKET: The Phuket Regional Blood Center (Phuket RBC, operated by the Phuket chapter of the Thai Red Cross Society) and Phuket Blood Bank at Vachira Phuket Hospital have begun yet another year of campaigning for blood donations. The island-wide blood donation drive is set to continue throughout January and beyond.

The high season in tourism is in full swing, urging Phuket RBC and Vachira Phuket Hospital to do whatever is in their power to replenish the island’s blood reserves.

Concerns about a severe shortage of blood for transfusions in Phuket remain high amid the high number of road accidents and other emergencies.

According to the national road-safety agency ThaiRSC, 11 people died in road accidents in Phuket from Jan 1-12 (compared to 14 deaths during the whole month of January in 2023). Nearly 1,000 were hospitalised after road collisions during the same 12-day-long period (compare to 2,040 during the 31 days of January in 2023).

As the demand for blood transfusions is high, all people are welcome, though RH-Negative donors are in the highest demand.

Phuket RBC invites donors to visit various locations across the island throughout January. The Phuket Red Cross outreach campaign schedule for the month is as follows:
