Organised annually by the Phuket Golf Association, the event strives to promote both the game of golf and tourism in Phuket and is a hugely popular occasion with professional and amateur players alike participating, with media and a large number of sponsors supporting.
Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat officially launched this year’s event and was joined by Police Colonel Dr. Akanit Danpitaksart, President of the Phuket Golf Association, Norasak Suksomboon, Vice Governor of Phuket Province, Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum, Commander of Phuket Provincial Police, and Chanwut Hongyok, General Manager of Phuket Country Club Golf Course.
Also present was Governor Sophon’s wife Mrs Busadee Suwannarat, who serves as the President of the Red Cross Chapter of Phuket Province and President of the Interior Housewives Club.
The tournament will see four separate categories of competition: the amateur team and invidiual contests; the junior contest; and the professional contest. Prizes and trophies will be distributed to the winners in each category, organisers confirmed.
As part of charity fundraising activities driven by the Phuket Golf Association connected to the event, a total of B50,000 was raised which will be donated to the Phuket Red Cross.
Governor Sophon thanked the organisers for their kind donation to the charity while also congratulating them for successfullu organising another edition of the hugely popular golf competition which he said helps connect public and private sector entities, boost tourism and provide a development platform for aspiring youngsters in the sport.
