Governor Sophon Suwannarat, joined by Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (PPAO) President Rewat Areerob and Phuket Art Association President Anchalee Vanich Thepbutra, announced the details at a press conference on Friday (Aug 8).
Ms Anchalee described the Biennale as “an important starting point in propelling Phuket onto the world art stage”. The festival will open with a grand ceremony on Nov 29, preceded by a welcoming event for international artists on Aug 16 and an Art Week from Aug 14–17, explained an official report of the meeting.
The exhibition will feature works by about 85 international artists, 800 general artists and 65 Biennale artists, alongside creative activities and workshops held across the island. The main exhibition hub will be at the Chartered Bank Intersection in Phuket Town, where permanent sculptures will be installed as a lasting cultural legacy.
Highlighted works will include:
- ‘Richest Roller’ by Dr Kamol Tasanachalee
- ‘THE LABYFINTH#2’ by Ajarn Pitupong Chaowakul
- ‘Moon Calendar’ by Ajarn Aree Kongpol
- Works by Nolan Oswale Dennis
- ‘Fufu, the Lucky Bat’ (five figures)
In addition, underwater sculptures will be installed to attract divers from around the world, designed to support sustainable underwater tourism without harming natural resources.
Phuket Provincial Cultural Officer Puangphaka Chaowai said the Ministry of Culture will stage exhibitions at iconic locations, including Saphan Hin and the Clocktower Circle (Surin Circle), allowing visitors to follow an ‘art trail’ across Phuket Town.
Governor Sophon said the event aims to create long-term value beyond temporary displays, positioning Phuket as a hub for the creative economy, while PPAO President Mr Rewat confirmed the province’s full commitment to supporting the Biennale, with the goal of making Phuket a sustainable international art city.
