Donations can be made at the National Blood Center, seven permanent blood donation stations in Bangkok, eight National Blood Service branch hospitals in Bangkok, 12 National Blood Service centres across the country, and provincial hospitals nationwide.
Assoc Prof Dr Dujjai Chaiwanichsiri, Director of the National Blood Center, shared that Aug 12 is recognised as National Mother’s Day, which also marks the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
The Queen Mother has served as the President of the Thai Red Cross Society for 68 years, since Aug 12, 1956. Under Her Majesty’s royal patronage, the Thai Red Cross Society has flourished as a humanitarian organisation, following the principles of the International Red Cross, and has contributed greatly to the well-being of the Thai people, Dr Dujjai said.
Her Majesty has long supported blood donation efforts. She has personally presented commemorative pins to blood donors, inspiring many to donate regularly. At the opening of the ‘Duj Sai Thipthara’ event on May 9, 1993, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Her Majesty expressed her appreciation for blood donors, acknowledging their selfless contributions, an official report of the call for blood donations noted.
The Blood Bank at Vachira Phuket Hospital is holding a special mobile blood-donation event at Limelight Phuket shopping mall in Phuket Town today in honour of Her Majesty the Queen Mother. Blood donations can be made at the mall until 6pm.
The Phuket Regional Blood Centre, located at 38/193 Rattanakosin 200 Pi Rd, Phuket Town, is also open to receive blood donations today, until 3:30pm.
People are encouraged to post photos online marking their efforts to donate blood in the hope of inspiring others to step up to save lives.
People with Rh-Negative blood are specifically urged to make donations to help avoid blood donation emergencies.
