The campaign began at 9am on Friday (Jan 19), with officers issuing fines for vehicles found parked illegally on Ratchapathanusorn Rd, the same road where the Patong Municipality offices are located.

The campaign, ordered by Patong Police Chief Pol Col Chalermchai Hirsawat, is to reduce the risk of accidents and prevent traffic jams, explained Patong Police through a post online.

Officers found four vehicles parked illegally, and took appropriate action, the post said.

The campaign continued yesterday (Jan 21), with police taking action against 10 vehicles found parked in violation of traffic laws along Sunday morning on Sawatdirak Rd.

The parking violations included parking on the footpath, parking in a manner that blocks traffic, parking more than 25cm from the kerb, parking in a no-parking zone, parking on a pedestrian crossing, parking across an entrance and exit of a property, parking at a bus stop, parking at an intersection and parking on a bridge or in a tunnel.

“Patong Police Station’s traffic network is tightening traffic discipline in the area to reduce the risk of accidents and prevent traffic jams,” Patong Police repeated yesterday.

“People should comply with the prescribed laws. If anyone violates these laws, they will be fined according to regulations,” Patong Police warned.

“But if anyone is parking legally, Patong Police Station would like to praise and encourage them to continue doing so,”the post yesterday concluded.
