The municipality is requesting cooperation from all businesses, including hotels, restaurants, pubs, and other establishments, to comply with the alcohol ban.
Sirawat Kriangkrai, Head of Patong Municipality’s Public Health Division, has been tasked with leading efforts in notifying business operators of the ban, with officials from the Disease Prevention and Control Division, Public Health Service Division, and Public Health and Environment Division deployed to inform establishments of the prohibition.
Violators of the ban face legal consequences under Section 39 of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act B.E. 2551, which carries a penalty of up to six months in jail, a fine of up to B10,000, or both, Patong Municipality warned.
The restriction is in line with the Prime Minister’s Office announcement on prohibited alcohol sale days, which also include Visakha Bucha Day, Asarnha Bucha Day, Khao Phansa Day, and the end of Buddhist Lent (Wan Ork Phansa)
However, areas inside international airports are now exempt from the ban, following a revision of the order by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra late last year.
Phuket Provincial Police have also reinforced the announcement, reminding businesses that the 24-hour ban will take effect from “24.00 hrs Feb 11” until “24.00 hrs Feb 12”.
Po9lice and local officials urge businesses and residents to respect the regulation in observance of the Buddhist holiday.
