The notices warn motorists to avoid Phisit Korani Rd from 6pm to 9pm each night from tomorrow night through to Tuesday night (Mar 9-11).

Motorists are advised to instead use Nanai Rd, 50 Pi Rd or the Klong Bang Wat Road in order to avoid the area.

The annual Baan Mon Fair celebrates the visit of King Bhumibol (Rama 9), who according to records kept by Patong Municipality arrived in Patong unannounced on Mar 11, 1959.

The annual fair centres around the Ratchapatanusorn, otherwise known locally as the ‘Monument to The King’s Footprint’, which was built to commemorate the event.

Of note, Baan Mon is one of the last genuine residential communities in the bustling tourism town of Patong.

The events this year began on Wednesday (Mar 5) and will conclude on Tuesday night (Mar 11).

The key activities and performances are being held at the open field opposite Patong Municipality, in Soi Daeng Phleung.

Nightly music performances have already seen artists ‘Daeng Kwa Paetcharakorn’ and ‘Ong Kunthap’.

Tonight (Mar 8) there will be a concert by ‘Ong Yanyong’, with a traditional Southern Thai performance by students toworrow night (Mar 9).

Singer ‘Tey Wiraya’ will perform live on Tonday night (Mar 10), while the  ‘Lung Phibun’ troupe will perform a traditional shadow puppet show on the final night, Tuesday (Mar 11).

The fair is organised by Patong Municipality in collaboration with the local community.
