Led by Patong Mayor Lalita Maneesri, the campaign team – including municipal executives, council members, department heads and disaster prevention officers – gathered at the Sea Pearl Intersection on Thaweewong Rd to inform residents, business owners and tourists about the drill.
The awareness push aims to ensure the public understands the evacuation process and is prepared to participate calmly and effectively. Flyers and information were distributed along the route of the drill, which will be staged next Tuesday (July 29), beginning at 1pm from Bangla Square, near the Bangla Police Station on Patong Beach.
During the simulation, the tsunami warning signal will be sounded, and participants will be guided to follow the designated tsunami escape route. The evacuation path starts at Bangla Square, turns into Bangla Road, passes Soi Saensabai, and concludes at a designated safe area in the parking lot near Soi Saensabai.
Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area during the drill to ensure public safety and smooth operations.
Municipal officials have emphasised that the drill is only a training exercise and have urged the public not to panic when the sirens sound.
“This is part of our ongoing commitment to public safety,” said Mayor Lalita. “Patong is a popular tourist destination, and everyone here – whether local or visiting – should know what to do in case of an emergency.”
The drill is being conducted in coordination with the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Division and is part of the city’s broader strategy to strengthen community resilience in the event of a tsunami.
