Patong Police issued an urgent advisory at 4:30pm warning motorists to avoid several inundated areas as officers were deployed to manage traffic and assess flood levels.
The response was led by Patong Police Superintendent Pol Col Chalermchai Hirasawat, with investigative and traffic teams under Pol Lt Col Somporn Surin and Pol Lt Col Chamnan Trapsin coordinating efforts on the ground.
Police confirmed multiple hotspots where floodwaters were “awaiting drainage”, with small vehicles unable to pass in several locations. The worst-affected areas included:
- Patong Hospital Intersection – impassable to small vehicles.
- Nanai Soi 8 – impassable to small vehicles.
- Pearl Roundabout – impassable towards Coconut Intersection.
- Sai Nam Yen Intersection – impassable for vehicles travelling via Patong Hospital.
- Loma Intersection – slight flooding but passable.
- Arunphat Village, Nanai Rd – flooding awaiting drainage.
- Fire Station Intersection – impassable.
Police noted that the flooding was caused by intense rainfall combined with fast runoff from surrounding hills. Officers said the water was expected to subside within about an hour, provided conditions did not worsen.
While the flood waters were expected to dissipate quickly, police warned traffic delays were still likely to ensue due ot the backlog of vehicles making their way through the town.
Meanwhile, Patong Municipality also issued its own advisory urging residents to avoid known flood-prone zones and to be cautious near hillsides due to the risk of sudden runoff. Officials further warned people to check electrical appliances for safety during periods of standing water.
Residents needing assistance were urged to contact the municipality’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office on 076-342600.
